At Bower Fold, At three o’clock, On Saturday, It started raining goals, The FC United faithful had waited, The faithful were rewarded.

3.03pm. At Bower Fold. On Saturday. Craig Lindfield crossed from the left, Matthew Wolfenden met the cross with his head and Wolfenden scored the first goal. An early goal. An important early goal that gave the players confidence. Confidence to score more goals.

At 3.05pm, Jerome Wright played a one-two with Craig Lindfield. Wright slipped the ball through to Wolfenden in the area. The Witton Albion defence did not pick up Wolfie. The Within Albion defence tried to tackle Wolfie. Wolfie did not panic. Wolfie volleyed the ball into the net. Goal. 2-0. After five minutes. It continued to rain goals at Bower Fold.

At 3.09pm, Jerome picked up the ball at left back. Jerome ran and passed into the midfield. Jerome did not stop running, Jerome kept running into the Witton Albion half. Dave Birch saw Jerome running. Dave Birch played a 50 yard ball to Jerome’s feet and Jerome forced a corner. Luke Ashworth watched the ball float into the box. Luke Ashworth was unmarked and met the corner with a glancing header. The ball was in the goal. Again. For the third time in 10 minutes.

At 3.32pm, Tom Greaves picked up the ball in the area and saw Jerome on his own on in the box. Greaves passed to Jerome. Jerome took a touch and lashed the ball across the goalkeeper into the far corner. 4-0. After 32 minutes.

At half time it was 4-0. 4-0 to FC United.

Witton Albion rallied. Despite being down to 10 men, Witton Albion would go down fighting. Witton Albion got a penalty. Dave Carnell saved the penalty. There would be no reward for Witton Albion.

Witton Albion would concede no more goals. Witton Albion were resolute. It did not matter. The damage had been done. Down the left with Jerome and with Lindfield. With Wolfie and with Ashworth. With the fans. The happy fans.
