Match Report
FC United got their 2016-17 campaign off to an entertaining if not frustrating fashion, twice losing the lead before finishing with a 3-3 draw at Chorley FC.

The home side started brightly and took the lead on 10 minutes when a ball played in Sefton Gonzales. His first shot was saved by goalkeeper David Carnell but the rebound came back to the striker who fired into the bottom of the net.

Six minutes later FC United were on level terms when a cross from George Thompson deceived Sam Ashton and dropped into the goal. Twelve minutes later, the Reds took the lead when Jerome Wright collected a weak backpass, rounded Ashton and rolled the ball into the empty net.

With a minute left in the half, the ball pinged around the FC box, it wasn’t cleared and fell to Andrew Teague who fired into the far corner.

Just after the hour, the Manchester visitors took the lead again with a long range Thompson free kick finding the bottom corner.

With six minutes left on the clock, Karl Marginson’s side conceded a penalty when Marcus Carver was impeded in the box. Jason Walker took the penalty but the ball was well saved by Carnell. From the corner Scott Leather headed the ball into the net to equalise.

There was still time for Teague to see his second yellow for a late tackle on Chris Chantler.
