FC United survive (for now) after winning five goal thriller at Alfreton
FC United live to fight another day in the Vanarama National League North as centre-back Sam Baird headed home a late winner in a five goal thriller at Alfreton.

First half goals from Louis Myers and Kurt Willoughby, his 21st of the season, were matched by the home side to make it 2-2 at halftime. But the Reds clinched the deserved victory with 12 minutes to go.

The result means FC United are now just four points from safety with two games to go. As such, there is still a slim chance of survival.

To be in with a chance of pulling off the great escape, Neil Reynolds’ team need to beat Blyth Spartans on Easter Monday at Broadhurst Park and win at Brackley Town next Saturday.

We would then have to hope Guiseley can only muster one draw from their remaining two games. It’s unlikely but football is a funny old game and one that is often very unpredictable.

The Reds can go into Monday’s match full of confidence. They were thoroughly deserved victors at Alfreton and could have won more comfortably was it not for some poor defending and a dreadful refereeing decision costing them two goals.

Full report to follow.
