Smoking Laws at Gigg Lane

Smoking Laws at Gigg Lane.

All Football League grounds, including Gigg Lane, have been subject to a new smoke-free policy, with effect from the start of the 2007-08 season.

This new policy anticipates and exceeds government legislation in this area. Consequently, smoking will not be permitted within the stadium confines from July 2007 onwards.

This move follows an initiative taken by Championship clubs; thereafter The Football League held lengthy consultations with all League clubs. The new policy also takes into account views expressed by more than 43,000 fans in The Football League Supporters’ Survey 2006.

What this means for FC United Supporters

Since 1 July 2007, the entire footprint of Bury Football Club has been designated a no-smoking area in accordance with both government and Football League legislation. Supporters will not be allowed to smoke anywhere inside the turnstiles. Any supporter found smoking will be asked by stewards to extinguish their cigarette. Failure to comply with the stewards’ requests will result in eviction from the stadium.

Any supporter found smoking by local authority personnel are liable to be issued with a £50 fine. In addition, supporters contravening the no-smoking legislation may result in FC United being issued with a fine of £2500.

FC United would like to request all supporters to respect both the legislation, and the wishes of many non-smoking fellow FC United supporters and refrain from smoking whilst supporting their club at Gigg Lane.
