Russell Delaney - A Fitting Tribute

Supporters may be aware that board member Russell Delaney sadly passed away three weeks ago.

Russell was known to many United supporters for his generosity, diligence and good humour. Russell’s myriad of contacts in the game proved crucial in the battle to stop Rupert Murdoch taking control of Manchester United. Over the last few years he worked tirelessly behind the scenes offering advice and assistance during the supporters’ campaign to stop the Glazers’.

He was absolutely instrumental in the set-up of FC United of Manchester having worked tirelessly since the formulation of the idea for the club and, despite failing health, travelling up to Manchester often several times a week from his home in the South East throughout these past hectic few months.

AT THIS WEEKS HOME GAME AGAINST NEW MILLS (PITCH INSPECTION PERMITTING) PLAYERS, COACHING STAFF AND THE BOARD OF FC UNITED WILL CONGREGATE ON THE PITCH AT 7.40 SHARP. ACKNOWLEDGING THAT RUSSELL WOULD HAVE HATED A MINUTES SILENCE IN HIS HONOUR, FOLLOWING THE REFEREES WHISTLE WE WILL HAVE A MOMENT OF CONTEMPLATION FOLLOWED BY A MINUTE’S APPLAUSE.

We therefore encourage all fans to get to the ground as early as possible to avoid disruption during these sensitive moments. It would help enormously if supporters could spread the word in the pubs before the game.
