Margy wants promotion

Victory against promotion rivals Guiseley at Gigg Lane on Saturday could put FC United into the UniBond Premier Division play-off zone for the first time this season and manager Karl Marginson is relishing the prospect.

The Reds have spent the majority of the season in midtable after a number of indifferent results in the early part of the campaign. However, four wins out of the last five, each with clean sheets, have reignited United’s bid to claim an incredible fourth promotion in only the club’s fourth year.

Margy is fully aware that some supporters would be happy with a season of consolidation, staying in the UniBond, raising much needed funds for a ground of our own and not entering the Blue Square North where rival clubs’ budgets and wage bills will dwarf what FC United can offer financially.

"We can’t look at it like that though,"?? says Margy openly. "We’ve got to go out and try to win every game we play in - it’s as simple as that. If the players started to think otherwise then we’d be in trouble wouldn’t we?

"We’ve been competing against enormous wage bills already this season, so if we go up again it won’t be any different. We’ll just have to get the right players in, who want to come and play for us for the right reasons. It’s the oldest cliche in the book but we’ll take it one game at a time and see what happens."??

Margy must decide whether to stick with the same team that beat Leigh 2-0 on Tuesday night or whether to rotate his squad. Danny Warrender partnered David Chadwick whilst Adam Carden filled in at right-back after Rob Nugent broke his nose at Witton Albion and Adam Turner decided to leave the club earlier in the week.

Super-sub Nick Robinson has also announced that he will be leaving FC United for a second time in a bid to gain more first team football and so the forward will be hoping for one last outing in a red shirt against Guiseley tomorrow. Everyone at the club wishes Nick well.

FC United of Manchester versus Guiseley is this Saturday at Gigg Lane with kick-off at 3pm.
