Margy strengthens defence

Two new players joined the first team squad this week.

Promising youth team defender Nick Swirad has been called into the first team squad and former Bamber Bridge centre half Adam Tong was signed late on Friday night.

"Nick is at Manchester College so he trains with me every day and youth team manager Pete Freakes and Darren Lyons have reported his impressive form for the youth team this season," said Margy.

"Nick was one of the successes of the ill-fated cup defeat at Woodley, the lad is a quality defender and he has a part to play in the future of this club if he wants it.

"The first step is for him to be training with the first team and get used to the idea, after seeing the way that he competed in training this week I know it is the right decision and he is going to be a cracking player."

Margy has been an admirer of Tong for sometime: "Tongy had some great games against us last season and when I heard that he had been released by Bamber Bridge I gave him a ring.

"This is a crucial part of the season and his signing will give us strength and a boost to the squad at a vital time."

Tong signed his registration papers late on Friday night and with Rob Nugent still recovering from the injury sustained at Witton and Adam Turner wanting away from the club the big defender is available for the Guiseley game.
