United coaching the 'Gunners'

Who would have thought that one day United would be coaching the Gunners? Well that has now come to fruition and FC United have been putting Audenshaw Gunners through a tough training schedule every Thursday on the all weather pitch at Egerton Park Arts College, Denton.

These coaching sessions are jointly funded by New Charter Housing Trust and the Audenshaw Neighbourhood Policing team, which came about due to the success of a 10 week project that commenced in July 2008.

The initial coaching sessions, funded by New Charter and Audenshaw police, with qualified coaches supplied by Tameside Sports Development, were implemented to provide a focus for local youths aged 15-18 but due to the success has now been extended to 11-15 year olds on a Friday evening.

The skills shown by the lads attending the sessions led New Charter to look at improving these further with the inclusion of coaches from FC United.

Spokesman for FC United Robin Pye said: "Our football club was set up by its members to be of benefit to its local communities and especially the youth in those communities. When we were made aware that New Charter were running coaching sessions we were only too happy to get onboard and give Audenshaw Gunners the support of our coaching team."??

The sessions are provided free of charge, on the understanding that coaching will be suspended if players return to behaving anti-socially

As an additional incentive FC United provided free tickets for each of the players at the training session that took place on Thursday 15th January.
