FC finally capture ex-MUFC starlet

FC have finally secured the signature of Phil Marsh, the former Manchester United youngster who scored a hattrick against us in Leigh Genesis’ victory at Gigg Lane in February.

The 22-year-old striker impressed all with his all action display having originally declined FC’s attempts to sign him earlier that week, but after giving the matter some further consideration he has joined with immediate effect and will be in contention for a debut on Saturday at Hednesford Town.

His signing is a boost for FC who have been without the UniBond Premier’s top scorer Kyle Wilson for several weeks with a knee injury.

Marsh played for MUFC against Crewe in the Carling Cup in 2006 and was a regular in the reserves side before he was released from Old Trafford and ended up at Blackpool. He has since played for Northwich Victoria and Hyde United.

Manager Karl Marginson said: "Everyone saw Phil’s quality when he guided Leigh to that win against us and we hope he will show his ability for us as well. It’s a great addition to the squad to have a player of such calibre. We have missed Kyle up front so this is a big boost for us. We have high hopes for Phil as we continue our push for the play-offs."
