The Sportlight Tournament, Cheetham Hill, Saturday 10/10/09
The Community Team have been following the first team’s cup progress with a very particular interest.
First of all we needed to beat North Ferriby to make it into the 3rd Round Qualifying, thus ensuring that our away trip to King’s Lynn on October 10th was postponed. Tick.
Then we needed a home draw in the 3rd round which clashed with a Bury match so that our game had to be put back to the Sunday. Tick.
Which leaves us with no FC United match on Saturday 10th October to stop people supporting the Sportlight Tournament in Cheetham Hill which is on that day.
What is the Sportlight Tournament?
The Sportlight are a community sports organisation in Cheetham Hill which is committed to extending involvement in sport and using sport to break down ethnic divisions in the community.
The tournament is planned for social teams from all parts of the community and as a recruitment effort for a new adult football team which will enter a league next season.
You can really help us out if you fall into one of these three categories:
1. Have you got some free time on the afternoon of Saturday 10th October (We all know that a lot of you have). If the answer is yes and you want to support FC United, sport and community cohesion all at the same time, please volunteer to help us run the tournament. We need people around to help with communication, refreshments and, especially, if you have relevant experience or training, refereeing and first aid.
2. Are you involved in a casual football team, a works team, maybe or a group of friends that meet up for a kick about? If so, why not enter the tournament? It is 7-a-side and will be played on grass.
3. Have you been thinking that you would like to play for a football team? Would a team that trains in the Cheetham Hill/Broughton area be convenient for you? Would you like to be in a team made up of players of lots of ethnic backgrounds with strong links to FC United? Well get down to the tournament and register your interest with the people from Sportlight!
