Community team needs volunteers

The FC United community team are asking members and supporters to consider helping us out in a voluntary capacity. We have two opportunities for volunteering at the moment.

1) Referees. As many of you will know, we run a 7-a-side tournament for teams of 16-19 year olds on those Saturdays when we have a home match. We have received funding to continue these tournaments next year and part of the funding has come in the form of two free places on a Manchester FA referees’ course. Referees typically earn £25 per match, so being a qualified referee can be a good way to earn a bit of extra money. To be sent on the free referees’ course, however, you have to agree to referee next year’s tournaments for free. We reckon we will do 8 tournaments. Tournaments take place at Goshen Sports centre in Bury and finish at 2pm so you will be right where you need to be.

2) Playscheme workers. We are running a series of play schemes working in cooperation with NEPHRA, a residents association in New Moston. If you want to get some experience working with or coaching children, we are looking for volunteers to work under the supervision of our coaches on the weeks commencing 1st June, 16th August, 23rd August and the October half-term holiday in 2010. The days are 10am to 3pm. This would especially suit people who are interested in a career in teaching or working with children or young people looking for some voluntary experience to put on their college application or c.v.

If you are interested in either of these opportunities, please email robinpye@fc-utd.co.uk
