FA Cup and FA Trophy first qualifying round draws

FC United have been drawn at home to either Radcliffe Borough or Lancaster City in the FA Cup first qualifying round with the match scheduled to take place on Saturday 11 September.

We have another home draw in the first qualifying round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy on Saturday 16 October against either Newcastle Town or Goole.

Bury FC are scheduled to be away from home on both those dates so the matches should go ahead as planned at Gigg Lane with three O’clock kick-offs but this will be confirmed in due course.

We have met all four of our potential opponents before and have a good record against them. After experiencing two draws and a defeat against Radcliffe Borough, FC United have beaten Boro the last three times the two teams have met including in the President’s Cup Final in April 2008.

Lancaster City defeated the Reds 2-1 on the opening day of the 2007/08 season at the Giant Axe but since then there have been two draws and two victories for Karl Marginson’s side against the Dolly Blues including a 5-2 thumping, also in April 2008.

Joe Yoffe scored a debut double against City in the FA Trophy last season in an exciting 3-3 draw. The Reds went on to win the replay 1-0 with Ben Deegan risking life and limb to force the winning goal over the line in the 95th minute.

Newcastle Town have been played twice and put to the sword twice courtesy of a 5-1 thrashing at Gigg Lane and a last minute winner from Simon Carden at Lyme Valley Stadium when Rory Patterson ended up playing in goal.

United have just played Goole once, in March 2008 en route to President’s Cup success - a 3-1 victory at Victoria Pleasure Grounds with two goals from Chris Baguley and one from Patterson.
