Margy promises new faces as Reds look to avoid FA Cup upset

Manager Karl Marginson has vowed to bring in new players ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup with Budweiser clash with Woodley Sports after declaring Wednesday’s defeat to Nantwich ‘not good enough’.

The Reds go into the first qualifying round match on a three game losing streak whilst neighbours Woodley are riding high with four consecutive victories under their belts.

Margy said: “Wednesday’s performance was nowhere near good enough to wear the FC United shirt. There wasn’t enough pressure on the ball and people weren’t working hard enough. That leaves a big question mark over the players.???

United have been hit with injury problems in wide positions with Matthew Wolfenden, Carlos Roca, Steve Torpey and Kyle Jacobs all missing Wednesday’s defeat to the Dabbers. It’s hoped that Roca will be fit to start our FA Cup campaign but it’s unlikely that the other three players will, so Margy may bring in some new signings to freshen things up.

He said: “The team needs a spark from somewhere because we can’t play like that again. So, if I have to provide that spark by bringing new players in then I will do.???

FC United have met Woodley in four competitive fixtures previously and it’s honours even with one victory each and two draws, so the Reds won’t be taking anything for granted despite plying our trade one division higher than the side from Stockport.

The solitary victory came for the Reds in March 2008 when a late Stuart Rudd bicycle-kick kept us on course for promotion to the Evo-Stik Premier Division. Rudd will return to Gigg Lane on Saturday for our opponents and although he’ll be assured of a warm welcome, United will be hoping that he doesn’t find the back of the net in similar style.

FC United versus Woodley Sports is this Saturday at Gigg Lane with a three o’clock kick-off. It’s pay on the gate as usual with entrance fees at £8 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground and get your scarlet ribbons at the ready.
