FC United funding success boosts Street League Manchester

Street League Manchester, a charity which specialises in changing the lives of disadvantaged young adults through the power of football, is set to receive a major funding boost thanks to FC United of Manchester winning matched funding for its work with the charity.

The £30,000 funding boost has been secured through Sportsmatch, a Sport England programme which makes awards to not-for-profit organisations that have secured sponsorship to deliver new community projects to grow or sustain participation in sport. FC United was able to secure the cash boost for Street League by matching funding from Wilmslow-based mobile phone software company mxData.

Commenting on the news, FC United’s community and education manager Robin Pye, said: "This is great news. The funding will enable FC to further develop our work with Street League to deliver lasting benefits to young people and communities across Manchester. It shows once again how football can be a positive force for change at grassroots level."

David James, chief executive of mxData, said he was delighted that his company’s support had enabled FC United to win funding for Street League as it underlined why they decided to support the club’s community work. "I’ve long been keen to find and support a cause that offers a genuine community benefit the entire company can adopt and get behind - offering practical help and benefits as well as financial support,"said James.

"After learning about FC United’s ethos and its community work, then meeting some of the people who help run the club, I realised I’d found a great organisation to work with. Winning Sportsmatch funding for such an important community project inManchesterlike Street League, increases further the community benefits we can provide and I’m absolutely delighted with that," James said.

Street League launched its services in Manchester on Thursday 24 November at a special event at Manchester Central Power League, attended by FC United manager Karl Marginson and general manager Andy Walsh. For more information on Street League see click here
