CYCM - Soul food and cheer

Saturday sees the first Course You Can Malcolm of the new season. The sixth year (no, it can’t be? Yes, really) of Malcolmses will continue to play its part in contributing to our club, both financially and with its much-cherished blend of music, beer, poetry, food, laughter and a bit more beer. A fortnightly reminder that our club ’does things differently’.

It is August and therefore bands are festival-ing so we have turned to our own to fill the void. There will be sets from a selection of the fine roster of FCUM-supporting DJs, and a new MC for you to heckle.

There will be some splendid veggie fare, and negotiations are ongoing regarding the provision of soup. There’ll also be mini-muffins bursting with wimberries lovingly picked especially for CYCM on the slopes above Hebden Bridge this summer - yes, we think of the happiness of Malcolmses regulars even in the close season.

Get there early if you want to be sure of getting food though... Sadly we have to report that there will be no Tater Ash or cheese and onion pies this Saturday. Kevin the baker from Westwells is suffering the consequences of a bad accident and his current ill health means the bakery has had to close for a while.

We’re sure everyone at FC United, whether or not you’ve had the opportunity to taste his first-rate food, will join us in wishing United fan Kevin a speedy recovery. His baking excellence has served us well for the last five years, not just at CYCM but many other club events too.

And that leads us on to a plea for help. Our regular Tater Ash Wagon is out for this season so once Kevin is back at the ovens we’re going to need a new food picker-upper and dropper-offer.

If anyone is able to pick up the food from Westwells at around 12-12.30 on home matchdays and take it to Gigg Lane please contact courseyoucanmalcolm@fc-utd.co.uk Westwells is on the Droylsden/Openshaw border and is about 5 minutes drive from Junction 23 of the M60.

Some of the Oddies are taking a well-earned breather this season, having missed most of each home game for the last five years in order to nurture the spirit of Malcolmses. They are far too bashful to want to be thanked, but heartily thanked they shall hereby be. If anyone would like to help out occasionally this season, pre- or post-match, please contact courseyoucanmalcolm@fc-utd.co.uk, or let on to one of the volunteers on Saturday.

Usual door rules - open from 12pm, member plus one guest.
