All the threes for FC Youth

Sunday saw the FC United youth side make their first appearance at their new The Lancaster Club in Failsworth. It was their third match of the season and their third win; this time with a 3-0 win against Chester. First half goals from Andy Lee, Daniel Maynard and Kane Hughes saw the young reds home in comfort.

FC were on the front foot from the start, testing Oliver Foster in the Chester goal four or five times before the first breakthrough. That came in the 18th minute when a ball from midfield gave Andy Lee space on the edge of the box to fire home.

The game then settled down to some extent but without a serious test of the home defence. That is until the 38th minute; Josh Smethurst combined with Mike Taylor and passed to Daniel Maynard who made no mistake. Those who spent any time celebrating that goal could easily have missed the next one. The lads pressed from the start, forcing Chester back to Foster. His clearance fell straight to Kane Hughes who ran past the keeper and slotted in to an empty net.

Maynard scored again just before half time when Jonathan Poizer and Andy Lee combined to get behind the defence. He met the cross with a drive that fizzed just wide; however 3-0 at the break it was.

The second half followed much the same pattern, with FC dominating the game. If the expected goal rush failed to occur, some credit should be given to the Chester defence who didn’t allow FC quite so much room although some wayward shooting could also be a factor. Kane Hughes fashioned a chance for himself in the 55th minute but shot over. Shortly afterwards Charlie Doyle put the ball invitingly in for Poizer, but a stretched limb couldn’t quite keep the ball low enough. He came closer as the game was drawing to a close with a free kick from the right wing which hit the near post.

Other chances came and went throughout the half but the game finished 3-0, manager Dave Brown, particularly pleased with the clean sheet. Next up is a return to the Lancaster Club on Wednesday, with a 6:30pm kick off against Curzon Ashton. Supporters should note that the post code is actually M35 0DX for the Broadway location.
