Margy eyes Wembley date as FC United travel to Stamford

Manager Karl Marginson has declared that FC United are ‘in it to win it’ as the Reds travel to Evo-Stik Division One South side, Stamford AFC in the FA Carlsberg Trophy on Saturday afternoon with a virtually fully-fit squad.

FC United made it to the first round proper of the non-league knock-out competition for the first time last season before bowing out at Guisely, and Margy would like to build on that success this year. He said: “It’s a fantastic competition to take part in, so it’s not a distraction at all. It presents a realistic chance for us to get to Wembley and so it’s our job to make sure that we have a good enough and big enough squad to compete on all fronts for honours.???

The Reds are boosted by the news that midfielder David Birch is back available again after the recent birth of his baby boy – congratulations to David and family from everyone at the club. Meanwhile, winger Carlos Roca has resumed training again following an ankle injury, which has kept him out for the past few weeks, and is hopeful of a place on the substitutes’ bench.

Despite only winning one of their last five matches, Margy says the FC United camp is upbeat. He said: “The mood is really good. The players were feeling like they let everyone down after the Fylde game but I think they responded in the right fashion against Hereford, all be it in defeat, and they put in another good performance at Ferriby, who are top of the table and a tricky tie away on a Tuesday night.???

Stamford meanwhile, have been brushing aside virtually everyone they face en route to climbing to third place in their division. Until this week that is, when they slipped to a surprise 2-1 home defeat against seventh placed Carlton Town on Tuesday. The Daniels will be looking to repeat their epic Trophy run of the 2003-04 season when they made it to the fifth round before being knocked-out by fans owned club Exeter City.

Stamford versus FC United of Manchester in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy kicks-off at the traditional time of three o’clock this Saturday at The Daniels Stadium, Kettering Road, Stamford, PE9 2JS. The game is pay on the gate with admission prices at £8 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Get yourself to that football ground.
