FC United rush all for first Olympic goal

FC United rush all for first Olympic goalFC United will be aiming to continue our climb up the Evo-Stik Premier Division on Saturday as we welcome Rushall Olympic to Gigg Lane.

The Reds have met the Pics twice before but are yet to score a goal against their West Midlands opponents with a 0-0 draw at Gigg Lane in September last season followed by a 1-0 defeat at Dales Lane in March.

It’s something that United will be looking to put right tomorrow and the signs are positive with the Reds undefeated in their last three games - winning two and drawing one.

The Reds expect to be without forward Matthew Wolfenden on Saturday, with sore ribs, but winger Carlos Roca should be back available after missing several games with an ankle injury.

Margy was relatively pleased with last weekend’s draw at Ilkeston, despite the fact that the Derbyshire side are at the wrong end of the table. He said: “People who don’t really understand football at this level can make the mistake of looking at a league table and thinking they can tell which way a game between two sides will finish.

“It may be the case in the Premier League, but it is certainly not the way in non-league football. That mistake was made by some when we travelled to Ilkeston at the weekend. I would like to remind those people that we were second bottom at this stage a couple of years back and ended up in the play-off final.

“That is the wonderful thing about this level - it is real football and something that should be embraced. It is not the plastic and predictable Premier League. It is not the FC United way to disrespect the other team - we are not big time charlies rolling in to town to take the three points.

“Rushall will provide the same tests for us that they did last season. People slagged their football but let’s get one thing straight - they play to their strengths and deserve credit for that. It is up to us to beat them and match their effort. They will be big and physical and we have to rise above that and play our football.

And Margy added: “The challenge to our lads on Saturday is to see if they can score the club’s first ever goal against them. With the fans backing us and everyone United, I am sure we can.???

FC United of Manchester versus Rushall Olympic is this Saturday at Gigg Lane with the traditional kick-off time of three o’clock. It’s pay-on-gate as usual.
