FC United look to continue promotion push at home to Fylde

FC United look to continue promotion push at home to FyldeFC United expect to return to Gigg Lane this Saturday after a month away when they host AFC Fylde for the first ever time and the fifth-placed Reds will be hoping to keep up with the promotion chasing pack.

Karl Marginson’s side have won seven out of their last eight games, including their last four league fixtures, so confidence is understandably high in the squad. However, United can take nothing for granted against the newly-promoted Coasters, who reached the first round proper of the FA Cup this season before bowing out against League Two side Accrington Stanley.

Despite having a mixed run of three defeats and two wins in their last five outings, Fylde already have the upper-hand against United having beaten the Reds 4-2 back in October at Kellamurgh Park, the only fixture to date between the two clubs.

Margy accepts that United were comprehensively outplayed that day by 10 men but he is not expecting a repeat performance this time around. He said: “It seems a long time ago since we played Fylde away and were well beaten. We weren’t at the races that day but we had faith in our players and it has proved to be well-placed as we’re now in the play-off places.

“We’ve been on a really good run of form but we shouldn’t get too excited about being in the play-off places at the moment because there will be many twists and turns to come. There will be injuries and suspensions as the games pile up but if we keep on playing the way we have in the last seven or eight games, we will be in good stead.???

And Margy added: “We all know about Fylde’s manager Dave Challinor, who led Colwyn Bay up the leagues, beating us in the play-off final the season before last. We will have to be at our best on Saturday if we are to settle the score.???

FC United of Manchester versus AFC Fylde is this Saturday 9th February at Gigg Lane with the traditional kick-off time of three o’clock. As usual, it’s pay on the gate with prices £8 for adults, £5 concessions and just £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
