Youth go Hydeing

The youth team took advantage of the Sunday afternoon sunshine to travel to Mossley and take on a Hyde side that have chosen to rent the Seel Park ground for their home fixtures. There was an early scare as Hyde had the ball in the net after four minutes but that effort was ruled out for offside. That gave the lads the jolt they needed and they were largely in control of the rest of the game.

In the tenth minute they took the lead as a free kick awarded for a foul by the Hyde keeper Curtis Hickman on the left, just outside the penalty area. Jonathan Poizer’s free kick was headed home by Liam Ellis. Hyde had a chance to equalise soon afterwards but Ryan Barker recovered his own poor clearance by saving from Dominic Marie.

A feature of the first half was Hyde’s attempts to take short goal kicks, mainly because Hickman was unable to reach the half way line if he went long. Yousif Yousif was unlucky to see a block on one clearance drift just wide. He did double the lead after twenty minutes. A Poizer long range effort was parried out but only as far as Yousif who managed to stab the ball home.

Poizer was unlucky not to score when a thunderous drive crashed against the cross bar and bounced down close to the line. It looked from the dug out, as though it might have been over before it bounced clear but there was no great appeal from the players.

Debutante, Frank van Gils capped a fine performance, slipping a pass for George Shaw to make it 3-0 on 29 minutes and within five minutes it was four when Lewis Lacy drove a fierce low free kick into a crowded penalty area and into the net via a touch from Hyde full back Jordan Poole. Hyde were awarded a penalty just before half time but Poole’s miserable afternoon was compounded when his tame kick was easily saved by Barker.

The second half was a more leisurely affair, although the home side upped their work rate the FC defence were able to deal with what half chances were created. Midway through the second half the scoring was completed as Kial Callacher managed to steer home a Mike Taylor cross at the second attempt. Other chances came and went, most notably when Yousif found himself one on one with substitute goalkeeper Jake Webster but was unable to shoot past him.
