FC United/The Manchester College Football Academy in push for silver

FC United of Manchester and The Manchester College are on the hunt for silverware this season as their Football Academy side have reached the Quarter Final stage of BCS National Elite Cup, Semi Final of the Manchester Schools U19 Cup and the team are in second place in the BCS North West Elite League trailing the current leaders Accrington & Rossendale by 2 points but with 2 games in hand.

The Manchester College has a successful club-link partnership with FC United of Manchester, enabling players to benefit from excellent coaching and progression opportunities into their under 18 and first team squads, and FC United first team manager Karl Marginson and first team player Carlos Roca also coach and develop the players within the Football Academy program. Academy players have the opportunity to train for up to ten hours per week and play matches every Wednesday.

The Football Academy side will now play previous BCS National Cup holders Hartpury College, from Gloucester, away on Friday 15th March in the Quarter Final, as well as St Bede’s College in the Semi Final of the Manchester Schools U19 Cup at Wilbraham Road on Monday 25th March. In addition the team have 9 league games to be played by Wednesday 17th April which means a busy period for the side in their quest for titles at all levels

Head of The Manchester College Football Academy, Paul Bright said:

“The players have worked hard both in the classroom and out on the pitch all season and they have got themselves in a fantastic position to compete and win major honours at college football level. The coaching team have done a fantastic job developing and guiding these players as footballers and as young men and we are reminding them that there is still a lot of hard work to come from them and to take nothing for granted in football as you get out what you put in.???

Karl Marginson, FC United First Team Manager and Head Coach of The Manchester College Football Academy added:

“The work rate and dedication of the majority of players so far this season has seen added competition for places in all squads and helped with the progression of players through the college football pathways that we have in place. This is done with good communication between the coaches and their understanding of how young players are progressing and how they can help them achieve the goals set. This has translated into increased success so far and any squad that wants to be successful has to have fierce competition within it. It also takes a better understanding from players to reflect on their performances and always give 100% commitment in everything they do.???

In September 2013, FC United of Manchester and The Manchester College are looking to build on their existing Football Academy provision with the launch of a full time FC United Youth Academy programme aimed at helping players improve academically, technically, tactically, physically and socially by passing on football knowledge and expertise in a positive learning environment. Trials will be held for the Men’s and Women’s Football Academy in April and May 2013 for 16 – 18 year old male and female footballers and Year 11 school leavers who are looking to combine their football careers with studying a full time college course. Any players that are interested in attending the trials and gaining a place in the FC United Youth Academy can register for the trials here
