Board election announcement

Have you ever thought about standing for election to the Board at an AGM? Or maybe it’s never crossed your mind before, but now there’s a unique opportunity to give it a trial for a short time.

After the 2012 FC United AGM, three Board members resigned leaving unexpected vacancies. The current Board reviewed the options and decided elections will be held at the 2013 General meeting on Sunday 28th April with a term of office ending at the 2013 AGM. The reasoning is to maintain the normal situation of half the Board resigning/seeking re-election at each AGM. Therefore, these three posts only require an initial 6 months commitment, with the option to re-stand for a further 2 years when you’ve discovered there’s no magic to being on the Board.

New Board members Des Lynch and Pete Burke have both settled well and are enjoying discovering that being on the Board is not as scary as they thought. Des Lynch said “If anyone is thinking of putting themselves forward as a candidate for the board, if they feel that they have something to contribute then I would urge them to stand. There is nothing to be wary of, nothing to be daunted about???.

Des added “Existing board members will welcome you and provide assistance and advice whenever it’s required. I had my own doubts prior to declaring my nomination but whenever I’m asked now I can honestly say that I’m glad that I did it and I’m thoroughly enjoying the experience???.

Long standing Board member Alison Watt said "The only skill you need is enthusiasm. We can get outside help for anything specialised, like financial or legal advice. We’ve said for years that football fans could run clubs as well as, if not better than the professional executives and at FC United we’re proving that’s the case".

Any member wishing to stand as a candidate should submit a written nomination to the club secretary who will confirm receipt.

The nomination should:

a. be endorsed by not fewer than 5 other members who, in granting their endorsement, state that to the best of their knowledge the member seeking election to the Club Board fulfils the criteria set out in these rules.

b. clearly state that the member wishes to stand for election to the club board at the forthcoming GM

c. declare eligibility to be a member of the Club Board

d. be written in clear English and be clear to read.

e. clearly state the name and membership number of the prospective candidate

f. be received no later than noon 35 days before the scheduled date of the GM (Sunday 24th March 2013).

All Candidates may also submit a statement in support of their candidacy of no more than 400 words and a passport style photograph.

Statements and photographs not supplied at least 35 days before the scheduled GM (Sunday 24th March 2013) date may not be distributed with the AGM papers. If possible supply the statement to the club secretary in a common digital text format (e.g. ".doc", ".odt", ".rtf", ".txt").

Any members intending to stand for the board are urged to read Rules 61 to 71 of the Club’s Constitution.

Notifications of members standing for election to the Board, containing the information requested above, should be posted to the Club’s registered office at:

FC United of Manchester, Hope Mills, 113 Pollard Street, Manchester, M4 7JA

or sent by e-mail to: office@fc-utd.uk

to arrive by no later than Sunday 24th March 2013, being 35 days before the date of the AGM.

All members will receive full format notification of the meeting in as well as details of any resolutions no later than 21 days before the meeting. Members are reminded that only those without an email address will receive notification in the post. Those with a registered email address will receive notification by email and documents will be available from the member’s area of the official website no later than 21 days before the meeting.
