Under-18s go free as FC United welcome Worksop on Youth United Day

Promotion chasing FC United welcome Worksop Town to Gigg Lane on Saturday afternoon where we’re aiming for the biggest crowd of the season because supporters under the age of 18 gain free entry as part of Youth United Day.

The Reds are lying in third place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division with four games to go. With three of the remaining games at home, United should be fairly confident. However, they know they cannot take anything for granted or afford any slip-ups.

With Worksop having beaten the Reds 4-1 only last month, they will represent a tough test during the run-in. One which manager Karl Marginson expects his players to respond to.

Margy said: "If the players need any added motivation on Saturday, which they shouldn’t, then putting that result to bed will do it. That said, all the motivation we need should be the will to secure a play-off place."

Margy was pleased with how his players responded to his demands for a better performance in midweek after a disappointing draw at relegated Eastwood at the weekend.

He said: "On Tuesday our intensity and tempo were good and we adapted to the conditions well. The first half was difficult as Stocksbridge played well. By continuing to pass and keep the ball we worked them so hard they got tired and couldn’t keep up their game plan after the first 45 minutes.

"We scored three but could, and should, have scored more in my opinion. That said, we were sloppy at times and their goal was a case in point when one minute we were up their end and the next we were three on three at the back. It needs to improve."

And Margy concluded: "Hopefully, we can take a step closer with you and a big crowd of youngsters roaring us on."

Get yourself to that football ground.
