Kris Stewart goes back to the terraces
The following statement by the Dons Trust Board has been taken from the club web site
It is with great regret that we announce that AFC Wimbledon’s Chief Executive and Chairman, Kris Stewart is standing down.
On 4 September, Kris tendered his resignation which was accepted by the boards of both The Dons Trust and AFCW PLC at a scheduled joint meeting that evening.
Chair of The Dons Trust, Tom Adam, said, "I have very much enjoyed working with Kris over the last four years. He has been an inspirational leader of our club and I am sad to be seeing him leave his post. He leaves with our best wishes and I look forward to seeing him at the next match."??
Talking about his resignation, Kris said, "Along with my colleagues and fellow supporters, we have been through a rollercoaster ride together in the last six years of Wimbledon Football Club and its successor, AFC Wimbledon. I can’t believe how far we’ve come since I first got involved with WISA back in 1999. The job has been incredibly challenging, demanding and rewarding @ indeed, I’ve learned more in the last four years than in the rest of my working life. But now the time has come for me to take a break and spend time on other things. I leave the job with fond memories and many more friends than I started with. I am proud to have played my part in re-establishing Wimbledon’s football club and I am looking forward to finding my spot on the Tempest End."??
Both boards wish to thank Kris for the immense contribution he has made to turning the germ of the idea of AFC Wimbledon into a reality. He has been in the driving seat during a period where as a club we have achieved so much; finding a home for the first time in 12 years; the establishment of a thriving community football scheme; a successful youth football section; on the pitch, three successive cup finals and two league titles. He should be rightly proud of his role in the journey of the club so far. We will greatly miss him as a colleague, but we look forward to seeing him as a friend and fellow fan once again.
Non-Executive Chairman of AFCW PLC, Iain McNay, said, "What AFC Wimbledon has achieved as a club in such a short space of time has been unique. It has been an inspiration to so many football fans around the country and Kris must take major credit for his role in this. The amount of time and effort he has put into this over the past four years has been extraordinary. I am sorry to see him go but understand that he needs to move on in his life."??
In the interests of stability within the club, the Dons Trust board has appointed Erik Samuelson as acting Chief Executive, with immediate effect. Erik will have overall responsibility for day-to-day matters at the club, for a limited period. The board has accepted Erik’s offer to carry out the role without remuneration. The board intends to advertise the permanent position following the forthcoming elections for the DT board later this year.
Kris will continue with some of his existing responsibilities during the handover period.
