Witton and Frickley barrels get us closer to 50k mark

Witton and Frickley barrels get us closer to 50k markFC United supporters and visitors have raised nearly £50,000 in the collection barrels since they were introduced at home games a few seasons ago.

A fantastic effort by all concerned, thanks to everyone who has contributed and donated. We are now approximately £1,500 short of £50,000 and it would be great to hit that total before Christmas.

We will take any old coins and notes, English or foreign and convert them into pounds for the Development Fund. So, please have a good root around at home before our four remaining home games of 2013 and help us break the £50,000 barrier before the year is out.

There were 657 tickets sold at storm-lashed Stainton Park at the re re re arranged replayed FA Trophy game against Witton Albion. The winning ticket number of 963 was claimed so £457 went into club funds. The barrels were emptied and all the cash inside was washed very clean by the rainwater and when dried out and counted amounted to £180.

At the Frickley game at Gigg Lane there were 755 tickets sold by the Pound for the Ground team and the winning number was 1305. The £200 first prize was won by volunteer David French, who put half of his winnings into the barrel collection whilst muttering something about "well you can’t take it with you". That left £555 for the Development Fund.

The barrels were off to a flyer thanks to David’s £100 donation. Another staunch supporter, Raymond, gave us £25 for 25 US dollars - what an exchange rate!! There were also various bags of change handed in at reception making a grand total of £340. As we sorted it we found 22 Euros, a load of old English coins, some Malaysian ringgits and a large book of 1st class stamps - all of which will be converted into pounds at some stage of the season.
