Ex-Stone Rose plays CYCM this Saturday

Aside from that story he did with Michael Caine and Kermit the Frog in it, my knowledge of Charles Dickens is scant at best. I don’t even know which cities he was on about in ‘A Tale of Two Cities’, but it’s a title I know wouldn’t be out of place at this Saturday’s Malcolms. This week’s entertainment comes to you from Lahore and Manchester; Longsight to be even more specific.

To be fair though, Lahore and Longsight aren’t the only places of interest this Saturday. Worksop are this week’s visitors to Bury, meaning The Lahore to Longsight rail route now goes via Worksop and Bury, and the following stops:

10:30 Giddy at the day ahead, the Oddies whistle while they Worksop as they shift all the heavy gear upstairs to Starkies

11:30 Mike Noodles will be whipping up veggie pizza and veggie hotdogs in a show of defiance at the meat industry

12:00 Doors open

12:15 Desperately fighting the urge to run away with all the cheese and onion pies and tater ‘ash for himself, Dave Frilly defeats his inner savoury demons and delivers the food

2:00 Taking You Round The Corner- Fibby McFib-Fib and his bag of fibs come out to play with this week’s Worksop themed quiz

2:30 Aziz Ibrahim- see below

3:00 Acutely aware the Northern Premier League’s ‘Best Dressed Male of the Year’ nominations are due to be announced, dapper Margy dons his best cashmere and leads the team out

3:45 Everyone back in to overindulge further. And it’s not even Christmas yet you gluttonous but loveable rogues!

Now as you know we’ve had some impressive acts in our time at Malcolms, but this Saturday’s possibly tops the lot. Aziz Ibrahim has worked with Simply Red, The Stone Roses, Paul Weller, Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke from The Smiths, Steven Wilson, Asia, The Players, Marillion’s Steve Hogarth and Ian Brown as a solo artist, including (amongst many, many other things) co-writing his debut album ‘Unfinished Money Business’.

After doing so much, most people may have decided to kick their shoes off, put their feet up and have a well earned brew, but not our Aziz. He’s also found time to set his own band up and as his website says: “From all that came ‘Aziz’. A 2 piece power rock acoustic & tabla psychedelic frenzy of ‘Asian Blues’ when he joined forces with tabla maestro Dalbir Singh Rattan. There is no other band like them!???. Their recently released album ‘Rusholme Rock’ follows on from their 2001 album ‘Lahore to Longsight’. ‘Worksop to Bury’ remains an unrealised concept for now though.
If this has whetted your appetite for more, then have a look at Aziz’s website www.aziz.co.uk .

You can also breathe a huge sigh of relief, as Taking You Round The Corner makes its return. Last week’s no-show was caused by too many people all going to see oversized Antipodeans chase a funny shaped ball in M16. No such issues this week though, so you can quiz away once again, you fact hungry quiz fans.

Doors open from 12, and as always it’s one member plus one guest. Aziz Ibrahim, belly-tastic food and drink, Stu From The Bay’s professionally laminated posters; this Saturday’s Malcolms has got more goodness than a bottle of vitamins from one of those weird smelling herbal remedy shops. CYCM: Riboflavin for the soul.
