Margy demands better as FC United aim for sixth spot against TraffordManager Karl Marginson has demanded better decision making and defending from his players as FC United aim to climb back up to sixth place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division on Tuesday night when we play one of our games in hand against Trafford.

With two postponed games and just one point from a possible six so far in 2014, the Reds have dropped from fourth place to tenth in the last three weeks but Karl Marginson’s side will be looking to put that right as we return to Gigg Lane for the first time in six matches.

Margy was appalled by the defending that saw us lose 3-2 on Saturday at Whitby Town and has indicated he may recall centre-backs Tom Davies and Charlie Raglan, who missed the defeat due to suspension and a minor knee injury, respectively.

Margy said: “Everyone was gutted with the result but the goals we conceded were absolutely terrible, schoolboy stuff, and it’s not good enough for FC United of Manchester. We’ve got to learn from those mistakes because they have cost us the game.

“The work-rate and the effort was there and has been throughout the season but sometimes that isn’t enough on its own. Allied to that, we have to have intelligence and good decision making on the pitch. I’m expecting better against Trafford and for the rest of the season.???

After four weeks on the road, the players will probably be happy to have home advantage on Tuesday, especially because we’re unbeaten in our last seven home league games, since the visit of table-toppers Skelmersdale on 15th October. And as our match is the only midweek fixture in the division, a win would definitely see us go back up to sixth, ahead of Ashton United on goal difference.

FC United have met our near neighbours Trafford four times in competitive fixtures before with three wins and one draw, including a last minute 3-2 victory at Shawe View in August. It looks like another close encounter could be on the cards because, despite being 15th in the table, The North have lost just once in their last eight outings and enjoyed a 2-1 win at third placed Worksop Town 10 days ago.

FC United versus Trafford is this Tuesday at Gigg Lane with kick-off at 7.45pm. It’s pay on the gate as usual with prices voted for by our members; £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
