University Freshers Fayre Success

The club’s thanks are due to all those supporters who assisted in the excellent Freshers’ recruitment activities at the universities of Manchester, Manchester Met and Salford. We now have 500 students to follow up, many of whom had arrived from outside the city but signed up for FCUM student societies having heard and read about FC United. No other Manchester football club has established societies, underlying our pioneering work in linking students up with the city’s football community.

Leaflets for the "Students go Free"?? home fixture with Bacup on September 30th were snapped up, Manchester University women’s football saying that they would all be in attendance.

Each of the universities’ men’s and women’s football teams welcomed the prospect of working with FC United, and in particular assisting with our activities in the community.

Two surprises were the requests of a former Northern Ireland under 19s and Universities international, and a former Valencia player to play for the club, raising the prospect of the student societies offering new streams of talent for our squads. The former Valencia player even reappeared at our stall with press cuttings from a Spanish newspaper about FC.

Manchester University supporters have arranged their first meeting in the Students’ Union bar at the Biko Building for 4pm on Thursday, September 28th. There they will finalise plans to meet up in the city centre before taking the Metro up to the Bacup game.
