FC United sign Chesterfield striker on loan ahead of trip to Skelmersdale

FC United have signed 19-year-old Chesterfield FC striker Jacob Hazel on loan for the rest of the season as we continue our push for promotion to the Conference North by taking on close rivals Skelmersdale United at the West Lancashire College Stadium this Saturday.

The Reds are up to third place and riding high on confidence after winning eight consecutive league matches, whilst Skem have slipped from top of the table to fifth after losing four of their last five league matches. A win on Saturday for either side would be a fantastic step towards overhauling leaders Chorley in the race for the Evo-Stik Premier Division title but defeat would be a real blow.

The two sides have met five times previously, with honours perfectly equal – two wins each and one draw, so it really couldn’t be more evenly poised. If United do win, we could go top of the table, depending on how Chorley and Worksop get on against Nantwich and Stafford, respectively.

Defeat could see us slip back down to fifth, depending on how AFC Fylde fare at home to Stamford, but we would still have games in hand on all our rivals other than Chorley. In summary – the race for the title is wide open but FC United are in the in-form team.

We have been boosted by signing Hazel, as we look to keep legs fresh for the run-in. The young Spireites striker will be hoping to gain some more experience, having previously come through the youth ranks at Halifax Town before spending time on loan from Chesterfield at several clubs including Matlock, Bradford Park Avenue and Norwegian club Sprint-Jeloy.

Can the Reds make it a fine nine victories and keep the pressure up at the top? We’ll find out tomorrow where it’s pay on the gate and a traditional kick-off time of three o’clock. Get yourself to that football ground.
