Matchday Safety and Events Operations Manager, Broadhurst Park Football Ground.

Scope of Role

- This is a new, permanent position which is critical to the success of our new facility at Broadhust Park. Given the importance of the role, it will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period.

- The role will be part time, primarily for event days, but flexibility to work additional hours will be required.

- The successful applicant will be expected to work from the club offices in Manchester, moving to the new facility once complete in late summer 2014.

- Payment will be calculated on an hourly basis, rate to be negotiated.

Aim

To work with FC United’s board and General Manager to:

- Prepare and co-ordinate all necessary arrangements to ensure the safety of attendees for all events held at Broadhurst Park Football Ground

- Coordination of traffic management and mitigation of any event impact on local residential amenity.

- Ensure that all statutory requirements are fully met.

- Work effectively with others to provide a safe and fan friendly environment on match days.

Job Description

Key responsibilities are to:

- Coordinate and manage the crowd safety management at the ground.

- Provide a safe, fan friendly environment for match days and events through effective management and co-ordination of the matchday operations teams.

- Assist the Club in maintaining and recruiting an effective cadre of matchday staff.

- Ensure compliance with the terms of the safety certificate and ground licence, health and safety legislation and relevant guides and all other applicable legislation.

- Enforce ground regulations.

- Attend and deliver the briefing and debriefing of all match day operations staff in relation to safety management. Report any matters of concern or interest to the club board and General Manager.

- Liaise with the match referee and other visiting officials from football authorities etc.

- Ensure that all pre-event safety checks have been carried out in accordance with established procedures.

- When necessary liaise with members of the Safety Advisory Group inc. representatives of the emergency services on matters of the match day operation.

- Deal with any supporter’s complaints about their match day experiences in the first instance, referring to the General Manager if a resolution is not forthcoming.

- Coordinate the development of all policies, procedural guidance and contingency plans relative to match day safety, and periodic reviews thereof.

- Review the club’s safety policy on a regular basis.

- Coordinate and if required participate in the delivery of appropriate training of staff.

- Undertake such other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required. Significant permanent changes in duties will require agreed revisions to be made to this job description

Person Specification

The following represent the essential qualities required for the role:

- An understanding of the need to facilitate an enjoyable matchday experience for supporters and event visitors.

- NVQ 4 held in Spectator Safety Management.

- Experience in management of large crowds in a stadium environment

- Proven experience in the practical application of health and safety systems.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to manage and motivate diverse teams; consistently review and improve event policies and procedures with a focus on valuing and sustaining matchday staff and volunteers.

- Ability to work on own initiative, demonstrating attention to detail and sound decision making even when operating under pressure.

- A demonstrable commitment to the success of FC United of Manchester and an understanding of the principles and goals of the Club and its supporters.
