AFC Telford United friendly this Saturday

FC United are travelling again at the weekend for a friendly against fellow fans-owned club, AFC Telford United on Saturday 2 August 2014. Kick off is at 3pm.

The fan-owned AFC Telford United were formed after Telford United folded on 27 May 2004. Their extra year’s experience was invaluable when we began our own journey in May 2005 and we have reason to be very grateful for the support we’ve received from Telford over the years.

We’ve played them twice before. The first game was at the end of our first season on Saturday 6 May 2006, as a benefit match for the Jamie Turner Appeal, a charity set up to help a Telford based Manchester United fan, who had received severe head injuries in May 2005, from an unprovoked attack when on his way to watch United play at Southampton. The second was for the Supporters Direct Cup on Saturday 24 July 2010, as part of a two-header played at Telford’s New Bucks Head ground, which also involved Merthyr Town v Scarborough Athletic for the inaugural Supporters Direct Shield.

We’re looking forward to another cracking day out at their impressive ground, although we’ve lost both previous matches against Telford, so we’ll be looking for our first victory. It will be another tough game, as this year, AFC Telford United will be going into the match newly promoted to the Conference, as the current Champions of the Conference North. Do you think we can get some tips off them for winning automatic promotion?

The ticket prices will be at a reduced rate of £10 adults, £8 concessions and £2 children.
