FC United boosted by loan signing and promotion of youth

FC United have been boosted by the loan signing of a centre-back and the promotion of three young players ahead of the Bank Holiday double header.

After opening the season with draws against Barwell and Buxton, the Reds now entertain new boys Belper on Saturday before making the short trip to Trafford on Monday.

Chris Lynch has joined on a month’s loan from Conference Premier side, Southport whilst youth and development team players Michael Brewester (defensive-midfielder), Dean Hope (midfield) and John Pritchard (forward) have all been promoted to the first team squad.

Manager Karl Marginson said: "They’ve all been doing really well in the Development Team, so we are rewarding them with places in the first team squad. Good teams always have the right mix of youth and experience and it’s the right time to give the lads the chance to show what they can do."

Margy expects Michael Norton to be fit and available for the weekend, after missing the first two games of the season. He also hopes that last season’s player of the year, Liam Brownhill will be able to take a place on the substitutes’ bench after struggling with a hamstring problem.

The bad news is that Craig Lindfield will be unavailable due to sustaining a swollen knee after a poor challenge against Buxton. FC United’s new winger played on for the rest of Tuesday night’s match but his knee is now so swollen he requires a scan.

Margy explained: "Craig didn’t feel too bad on the night but he woke up the next day and his knee had swollen really badly. It’s another blow but we’re hoping the results of the scan won’t be bad news."

Shaun Connor is another player booked in for a scan on his knee, although Margy is less optimistic about his chances of a speedy recovery. He said: "Shaun is having a scan on his knee ligaments on Thursday. We’ll wait and see."

Whilst not entirely happy with two points after two games, Margy was keen to look at the positives. He said: "It’s an unbeaten start and we’ve come up against two very defensive teams. The players know that they can do better, particularly against Buxton - they should have killed the game off.

"But we move on to the next game and look to build on what we’re doing right and to improve in certain areas."

FC United look to build on our unbeaten start to the season by getting a first victory under our belts. Get yourselves to those football grounds and get behind the lads as we aim for six points.
