FC United boosted by signing Hyde centre-back

FC United boosted by signing Hyde centre-back FC United is pleased to announce the signing of centre-back Luke Ashworth ahead of Saturday’s local derby with Ramsbottom, as we look to improve our four game unbeaten record by winning our first match of the season.

24-year-old Ashworth has Football League experience at Leyton Orient and Rotherham United after coming through the youth ranks at Wigan Athletic and has most recently been at Hyde FC and on loan at Chester. The 6ft 1in Bolton-born player has the potential to form a good partnerships at the back for the Reds.

Manager Karl Marginson said: “Luke is another player who has aspirations to get back into the Football League. We’re pleased to have him and his experience on board. It’s testament to the set up at this club, which has helped players such as Oli Banks, Charlie Raglan and Tom Davies get into fulltime football, that we can attract other talented young players who are also looking to reignite their careers.???

It would appear that our incredibly passionate supporters may have also swayed Ashworth’s decision to join the club. Back in April, Ashworth came along to support Callum Byrne and Dave Carnell during our 2-1 play-off defeat to Ashton United. Afterwards, he tweeted: "FC united fans are different class by the way."

We’ll looking forward to showing Luke that on a regular basis.

Back to the task in hand; United are currently 15th in the Evo-Stik Premier Division after drawing our first four games, whilst Ramsbottom are 20th due to winning one and losing three. Margy knows that the Reds need to improve, he said: “We’re doing lots of things well but we need to be more ruthless. Other than in the 0-0 draw with Barwell, we’ve worked hard to take the lead in every game and then we’ve thrown it away. That said, I take the positives out of the situations. We’re playing some good football, we now need to turn that into a run of victories.???

FC United versus Ramsbottom is at Bower Fold this Saturday with a traditional and supporter-friendly kick-off time of three o’clock. As usual, it’s pay on the gate with prices voted for by our members; £8 for adults, £5 concessions and just £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
