New communication channel launched to highlight FC United media

FC United has joined a new online web service to better highlight its various media and news offerings in an easily accessible format.

The club has teamed up with Manchester-based firm Wakelet to launch the new service - the FC United Wakelet profile - www.wakelet.com/FCUnitedofManchester - that will over time combine all the club’s photos, videos and news links in one platform that will be easily accessible from the main FC United website. The club plans to develop this as a communication channel for members and supporters that will provide ready access to media and other information of interest.

Wakelet was developed as a place for people and organisations to collect and organise information online into meaningful collections called ‘Wakes’. With these Wakes, you can easily and quickly organise links to articles, videos, images, sound files, and websites together in a linked up way. FC United press and communications officer Andy Walker said: “At FC United we have a lot of information, scattered across different platforms, that is sometimes difficult to find online so we wanted to group it all together and Wakelet looks to be an ideal way of doing that. They are also a Manchester-based company run by Manchester people who want to make a difference and we liked that too.???

The hope is that by sharing the Wakes FC United creates, the club can help like-minded people discover more useful, more relevant information faster than ever before. And just like the wake that a boat or a plane leaves behind; every Wake made will leave a path for others to follow.

Wakelet was started three years ago by founder and CEO Jamil Khalil. When he first founded the business he struggled to find investment, but it was Manchester that provided the help he needed as he was able to put a team together after a LinkedIn appeal for people to work on Wakelet in return for a share in the new business. Speaking to FC United, Khalil said: “I love Manchester and I want to make a real difference in the city. I’ve thought for some time that the web is a bit of a mess really, with information scattered all over place. How can we make sense of it all? How can we put relevant information in one place so it’s easier to find? Hopefully Wakelet can help that. Based in the city centre, Wakelet is a Manchester-based company, backed by Manchester people so we’re delighted to be working with FC United.???

The FC United Wakelet profile can be accessed at www.wakelet.com/FCUnitedofManchester There you’ll find links to the club’s new ground, video and audio, photographs, match highlights, women’s football, fan-owned club information, the ethos of FC, news updates and much more. There is a permanent link to our Wakelet Profile from the home page of the FC website and over time it will grow and expand as it is populated with more and more information. FC United’s Andy Walker said: “Supporters can also sign up to Wakelet, comment on the content and follow FC United on the Wakelet platform to keep updated on the latest information. The platform will complement our website by grouping together related and relevant information in one place, making it easier than ever for people to find out about the club and what we are doing.???

We want your views on Wakelet about what we should be including on the platform and how we can improve it. Please send your feedback to Andy Walker at press@fc-utd.uk
