No injury concerns ahead of FC United's trip to Nantwich

No injury concerns ahead of FC United’s trip to NantwichFC United manager Karl Marginson is pleased to confirm that the squad has no fresh injury concerns as we make the short trip to Cheshire to take on Nantwich Town this Saturday afternoon.

If we beat the 12th placed Dabbers at the Weaver Stadium and other results go our way, the eighth placed Reds could move up to fourth in the Evo-Stik Premier Division with games in hand. Despite being knocked out of the FA Cup and the Manchester Premier Cup in the last two weeks, the Reds have won their last two league outings and have shown signs of improvement.

Margy was delighted to welcome back experienced centre-back, James Knowles last Saturday after a month out with a groin strain. He said: “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his return coincided with a win and a good performance against Whitby. His presence and talking on the pitch helped the team. James has good leadership qualities that he’s obviously honed over the years and we’ve missed that in some matches.???

Some supporters may not be too concerned about the Manchester Premier Cup exit after losing on penalties to Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday night but Margy has a completely different stance. He said: “I was absolutely devastated. I put out a team good enough to win that match and the players let me down with a lacklustre performance.

“I wanted to come away with a real selection headache, knowing that certain players had taken the opportunity to stake a claim for place in the first team. As it turned out, I haven’t been given that problem, which is really disappointing.???

Margy did take one positive from the night though, a goal-scoring debut by youth team graduate Michael Brewester: “He did brilliantly. He did everything right and with that performance he may well have played himself into a place on the bench for Saturday.???

There was further positive news about centre-back Shaun Connor and winger Craig Lindfield’s recoveries from their respective injuries, which have caused lengthy lay-offs. Margy said: “Shaun trained on Tuesday and we’ve pencilled in a reserve game for Craig on 28th October. We’re really pleased with the progress made by both of them.???

Nantwich Town versus FC United of Manchester is this Saturday at the Weaver Stadium with a traditional, supporter friendly kick-off time of three o’clock. It’s pay on the gate, 45 minutes away by train from Manchester, and there’s no distractions from top flight football this weekend. As such, a bumper crowd is expected. Be part of it. Get yourself to that football ground.
