FC United up to seventh with win at Kings Lynn

FC United moved up to seventh in the Evo-Stik Premier Division with a 2-1 victory at Kings Lynn on Sunday with Tom Greaves and Lewis Lacy on the scoresheet.

Greaves scored his third goal in three days with a strike deep into first half stoppage time. Lacy doubled the lead in the 69th minute and although our hosts hit back with a goal in the 90th through David Bridges, the Reds did enough to claim all three points.

In a fast start to the game there was chances at both ends with the hosts’ Jordan Yong running through on goal but firing his shot wide, David Bridges seeing FC United goalkeeper Dave Carnell save his headed chance and Luke Ashworth heading a corner wide.

Shortly after the half hour, Joe Fox should have given the visitors the lead when a free-kick was cleared away from the line, Fox heading over the bar.

Just as at Curzon Ashton on Boxing Day, everyone was expecting the sides to go in level. Greaves had other ideas as he ran onto a free-kick and finished into the far corner of the net to give the Reds the lead.

On the hour mark, Greg Daniels was played in one-on-one but saw Alex Street equal to his shot. The resultant corner taken by Liam Brownhill almost crept in at the far post but was headed off the line.

The home side were certainly seeing their share of chances, Greg Smith heating wide and Stephen Spriggs forcing a great save from Carnell.

With 21 minutes left on the clock, the lead was doubled when a Craig Lindfield corner was volleyed in by Lewis Lacy for his first FC goal.

Carnell was called into action shortly after the goal when he saved well from Ryan Fryatt. A nail biting end to the game was assured when the home side pulled a goal back with the clock showing 90 minutes. A free-kick was headed past Carnell by Bridges but the Reds saw out the five minutes injury to secure a great victory

Website man of the match - Lewis Lacy. A commanding performance at the back capped off with a great goal that proved to be the winner.
