FC United aim for seventh consecutive win as we host Marine

FC United aim for seventh consecutive win as we host MarineFC United aim to continue our push for promotion on Saturday afternoon by recording our seventh consecutive win in the Evo-Stik Premier Division as we welcome Marine to the Tameside Stadium.

A victory could potentially move the sixth placed Reds up as high as third with several games in hand depending on how our rivals get on this weekend. But, regardless of other results, Karl Marginson’s side know that they just have to take care of their own games as promotion is in their own hands.

Margy said: "We asked the players to go out on Tuesday (against Barwell) and shake off the disappointment of bowing out of the FA Trophy last weekend and they did just that. It ended up being reasonably comfortable but there were some tired legs out there, which we have been monitoring in the run up to Saturday’s game. The lads are buzzing at the moment and we need that adrenaline as we prepare for a really busy period of matches."

Forward Matt Walwyn is the only fresh injury concern for FC United after suffering a hamstring strain whilst scoring for the Reserve team in a 4-3 victory at Ashton Athletic on Thursday night. The full extent of his injury is not yet known.

Obviously, Margy will want to keep everyone fully fit as we enter into the business end of the season but, if Walwyn is unavailable on Saturday, there are a plethora of attacking midfielders at the club who will be hoping to take his place in the squad.

Whilst FC United have lost just once in our last 13 matches and are pushing for promotion, our Merseyside opponents, by their own admissions, are in a relegation battle. The Mariners currently sit third from bottom and only just stopped a run of eight games without victory with a narrow 3-2 win at fellow strugglers Trafford on Tuesday night.

However, the Reds cannot afford to take anything for granted especially when the traditional Manchester-Liverpool rivalry is thrown into the mix. United have a superb record against Marine since we first met in 2008 - nine wins, three draws and just one defeat - but it has often been a close contest between the two sides. The reverse of this fixture was a 0-0 stalemate at College Road in September. Margy will expect better from his players this time out.

FC United of Manchester versus Marine is this Saturday at Curzon’s Ashton’s Tameside Stadium with a traditional and supporter friendly kick-off time of three o’clock. It’s pay on the gate as usual with prices voted for by our members - £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground and cheer on the Reds as they go in search of another victory.
