FC United aiming for six point Easter special at Ramsbottom and Curzon Ashton

FC United look to take a huge step towards cementing the Evo-Stik Premier Division title this Easter weekend with two games in three days.

The Easter period sees the Reds take a trip to Ramsbottom United on Saturday and ’host’ our temporary landlords Curzon Ashton on Bank Holiday Monday at the Tameside Stadium.

Karl Marginson’s side are back to being seven points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand after Wednesday night’s impressive 4-0 away win at Whitby.

Margy said: "The win at Whitby was a really important one. That is a fixture our rivals will have been looking at and thinking ’That is a tough place to travel to in midweek and points could be dropped’. But we showed our belief once again by easing to victory.

"Going up there over the years has taught us the importance of preparation. We leave nice and early in a good coach, giving the players the chance to relax on the way. It helps that we have a great set of lads with very understanding bosses and families.

"The dedication that players at this level show to the game is quite remarkable, but their families must take credit too. There are a lot of sacrifices, but when you come home midweek after a long trip with three points in your back pocket, it makes it all worthwhile."

Saturday’s short trip to Ramsbottom could be a difficult encounter against a team that still needs points to ensure they stay clear of the relegation zone. But, if the Reds play like they can, they should have what it takes to see off the Rams. Monday’s home match against our landlords Curzon Ashton will also be challenging as our fifth-placed opponents are well in the hunt for promotion and will go into the game with confidence.

Midfielder Dave Birch is the only fresh injury concern for FC United after limping off at Whitby. But, regardless of whether Birch is passed fit in time, Margy will most probably continue with his rotation policy and bring club captain, Dean Stott back into the team.

Ramsbottom United versus FC United is this Easter Saturday at the Riverside Stadium. It’s a three o’clock kick off. Get yourself to that football ground.
