People United Day News
People United Day, centred on the Glossop North End game this Saturday 28 October, is FC United’s contribution to October’s Football Against Racism In Europe activities.
Under 18s Go Free!! So, will the Youth out-sing the MRE?
It’s also a special day as the youth are taking over the Cemetery End as the Youth Stand and have sworn to out-sing the fans in the Manchester Road End.

Organisations from across Greater Manchester are attending the event. Banners are being prepared for the parade by a variety of organisations @ schools, colleges, youth clubs, junior football clubs, ethnic minority and asylum seeker organisations and supporters’ groups. Adding colour to the affair, Beechfield FC juniors will be parading in their club tracksuits and St John’s Ambulance will be in uniform, whilst Ashton youth are donning their specially made T-shirts.

Itinerary
Those arriving early for the game will be able to see some anti-racist street theatre being performed from 1.45pm by students from Bury College in the Social Club on Gigg Lane. Alternatively, a St John’s Ambulance will be parked outside the ground for inspection by those who fancy themselves as heroes in Casualty or Holby City. Manchester FA are supporting and assisting in publicising our event as their anti-racist roadshow hits the schools and youth centres. The FA roadshow will exhibit in the stadium on the day.
Fans are requested to take their seats in the ground by 2.30pm. The Cemetery End, accessed from Gate 3, and renamed the Youth Stand for the day, will host young people and accompanying adults. The latter will have to assist the Juniors in out-singing the Manchester Road End fans throughout the game.
At 2.15pm the players will warm up on the pitch in their specially made People United shirts. Sweaty and mud-stained or not, these shirts will be signed by the player who wore them and will be available for auction at a later date.
2.30pm is the assembly time for those designated to carry their organisation’s banners around the edge of the pitch. Banner carriers will not be able to access the pitch from the MRE or the Main Stand, nor be able to get into those stands at the conclusion of the parade at the Cemetery End, therefore we ask the banner carriers to assemble inside the Cemetery End beside the Main Stand at 2.30pm.
Merchandise
There will be two merchandise stalls operating this Saturday. One will be in its usual place next to reception and the other will be placed at the Cemetery Road End. On sale at the Cemetery Road End will be flags at discounted prices as well as bar scarves. New pin badges will also be on sale commemorating People United Day.
Halloween Party
After the game, FCUM Bury & District Branch have organised a Halloween party in The Pack Horse Hotel, Manchester Road, Bury. So we expect lots of interest from the Cemetery End.
Taking place from 5pm until late in the evening, all proceeds from the evening will be in equal support of the FC United Development Fund and the branch’s Community Development Fund.
Entertainment will include a DJ, an easy quiz and an auction of signed FC United items. FC United’s very own Kitman, George, will be making a guest appearance on the guitar. Tickets are £5 for adults and £2 for under 18s and include a warm serving of potato pie, peas and red cabbage, plus a raffle ticket for one of the prizes.
Changing facilities are available and there’s a prize for the best adult and junior dressers for those that fancy getting in the ‘spirit’ of things on the night and dressing up in their spookiest outfit.

Ashton
There will be at least two coaches coming from Ashton that will include two, possibly three groups of young people @ Ashton All Stars, a group from Oxford Park and young people that sports development work with. Others youth clubs have also been invited to come along.
The youngsters will be also be creating two banners, which they will design during youth club sessions. They are having some T-shirts made in relation to their ’Stand Up, Speak Out!’ project.
Rochdale
After northerncare (sponsoring young people in care and their carers), United Co-op have become our first new Inclusion Sponsor, offering £500 to help destitute asylum seekers and other disadvantaged groups attend the People United game.
Schools and Junior Football Clubs
Bury local authority has contacted all its schools and junior football clubs about our celebration, and Broad Oak School have already booked their places. We would particularly encourage local junior football clubs to get involved with the day by bringing a banner and their junior players along to the match.
Other Groups
The club is especially pleased to see that ethnic minority groups in Bury and Manchester are set to attend. A few organisations have volunteered to sponsor asylum seekers coming to the game. In the week leading up to the match, the Community Development team will be in Bury coaching a group of asylum seekers and refugees who are keen on football. Trade unions, colleges and youth clubs are also coming along.
