JOB ADVERT: Community Sports Development ManagerFC United is seeking a Community Sports Development Manager to help shape the club’s developing community sport programme.

This post offers the successful applicant a fantastic and unique opportunity to help shape and deliver a comprehensive, multi-sport and community development programme at FC United’s iconic Broadhurst Park stadium site. FC United is one of the leading supporter-owned football clubs in the country and has extensive ambitions for developing sports participation as well as using sport for the development of local communities and people.
FC United is seeking to appoint a community sports development professional manager to lead, develop and manage the club’s community sports development strategy.
The successful applicant will lead the drafting, management and delivery of a community sports strategy for the club which will meet its obligations to grant funders of Broadhurst Park (Sport England, Football Foundation and Manchester City Council) and the club’s obligations to deliver lasting benefit for its communities.
The club is seeking a self-motivated individual who can work as part of a wider team but who will take a management role in delivering the club’s community sport ambitions. They must have a strong background in community sports development.

This is a permanent position with a probationary period of six months and a salary in the region of £25,000-£30,000 pa.

Main responsibilities

To work with FC United’s board, general manager and community and education manager to:

- Develop, implement and manage a new community sports strategy for the club
- Maximise community benefit from FC United’s sports and community facility.
- Meet the football, multi-sport and community benefit outcomes required by grant funders of the stadium and delivery partners.
- Meet the community impact outcomes required by the club.
- Develop, implement and manage and the evaluation framework for the club, its community programme and site.

Responsibilities

To implement club objectives and meet the community sports development outcomes required by the club, its partner organisations and funders.

The main responsibilities will be to:

i) Develop and deliver a community sports development strategy for the club with football at its heart but including a range of other sports.
ii) Develop and manage a project plan to deliver existing partnership, planning and funding obligations.
iii) Manage and implement an evaluation framework for the sports development programme.
iii) Promote sporting and community opportunities at FC United including building and managing partnerships with local sports organisations and community users of the site.
iv) Secure revenue funding to support core delivery costs including sourcing funding for community sport development programme.
v) Work with existing community staff in development of the delivery strategy and coordinate strategy with the club’s community and education manager.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

The successful applicant will be experienced in delivering similar programmes at similar organisations and have the ability and confidence to meet the requirements of the job. This means that they must have the experience to lead, manage, to develop and deliver a strategy; to manage the administration, finance and delivery of such a programme; and to report performance and outcomes to a range of organisations and to the club’s co-owners, its members.

They will understand and be committed to the club’s ethos, aims and principles as set out in its rules and manifesto.

The successful applicant will also have a track record or securing revenue funding to deliver community and sport programmes and be able to market the opportunities of a sports facility site (including full size 3G artificial pitch, grass pitches and potential indoor activities). Ideally they will also have the ability to develop commercial relationships to increase the sustainability fo the sports development programme.

They will have demonstrable relationship management and inter-personal skills and be a good communicator.
