Young Reds rescue late draw against West Didsbury & Chorlton

Young Reds rescue late draw against West Didsbury & ChorltonA late goal from substitute Osebi Abadaki was enough to rescue a 2-2 draw against West Didsbury & Chorlton on Tuesday evening as a mostly youthful FC United side had to come from behind twice.

After Saturday’s 5-1 defeat at Rhyl, boss Karl Marginson decided to give a few of the younger players at the club the opportunity, alongside a few senior faces, but the home team were good value for their 1-0 lead at the break in what was a tight affair.

Tom Greaves levelled things up as he strongly headed home a George Thomson corner early in the second half, before the senior players made way.

The home team once again moved ahead midway through the half. But just when it looked as though the North West Counties Premier League side had won the game, Abadaki struck a long range effort low into the goal to make it 2-2, which was more than a fair reflection of a close encounter.

A crowd of 463 were on hand for the match which served as a memorial for West Didsbury & Chorlton’s vice chairman Rob Turley, who passed away last month, and raised money to be donated to Turley’s favourite charity, Betel UK.
