FC and Chauntry - United for Youth

Aspiring young footballers in Greater Manchester are set to receive a major boost with FC United and sponsors Chauntry being accepted for a major grant from the government-funded Sportsmatch scheme.

The grant, worth almost £10,000, will enable FC United to establish a quality-led coaching programme for young people throughout the city, encouraging them to remain in the game and allowing them to aspire to playing at a high level. Over the past few months the club has developed strong links with local grassroots clubs, schools and community organisations, and this project will help put into place a pathway for young people to start, stay and succeed in football, providing the opportunity of playing for FC’s Youth and Reserve team as an aspiration for those involved.

Sportsmatch is a government-funded scheme aimed at encouraging commercial sponsors to invest in grassroots sport, with Chauntry being the clubs partner on the project. The sponsorship will see Chauntry appointed as the Youth and Community partner at FC, and shows how a commercial sponsor can contribute to the clubs commitment to making football accessible to all.

"This is a really exciting project and I must thank Ray Vaughan at Chauntry for his terrific enthusiasm and support for the scheme." said FC United’s General Manager, Andy Walsh. "We’ve had discussions with a number of agencies about gaps in football provision, and the 14-23 age group was seen as an area needing support. Many teenagers drop out of junior football as they discover new attractions and are subsequently lost to the game. This project will allow us to encourage these young adults to remain in football, and provide a suitable transition from grassroots to open age teams."

"At Chauntry we have always believed that companies have a role to play in shaping the society of tomorrow, and helping to promote social cohesion."?? said Ray Vaughan from Chauntry. "Football is an ideal platform for this, as it is something that everyone can participate in, regardless of race, creed, sex or class. Football, by its very nature, also encourages young people to adopt a healthier lifestyle through physical exercise, and promotes the principles of discipline and teamwork"??.

Ray continued by saying "We are delighted to have been provided by FC United and Sportsmatch, with the opportunity to take part in this very exciting project. Hopefully, between us, we might help develop the next Paul Scholes"??.

Mike Reynolds, from Sportsmatch, offered his congratulations to the club and said that the grants panel had been pleased to support the application.
