PETERLOO SHIRT DESIGN:UpdateThe Board would like to update the supporters on the decision to cover the Peterloo logo on the away shirts.

Supporters will be aware that our white away kit has a logo on the back commemorating 200 years since the Peterloo Massacre. The decision to include a Peterloo commemoration was taken after a vote by our members.

Before asking members to decide whether the shirt should include this commemoration, the Board considered Laws of the Game issued by The International Football Association Board. In particular, the new guidance on Law 4 - introduced after FA complained to FIFA about the restriction on the wearing of poppies on shirts in international matches.

The Peterloo Massacre was a significant national event and a watershed moment in Manchester’s history. We view the logo on the back of our away shirts to be in accordance with the flexibility introduced by the new FIFA guidance – the FA disagreed.
We are disappointed with the FA’s stance, particularly given the FA campaigned to FIFA for common sense to be applied to such circumstances. However, we appreciate the time the FA have taken to discuss this matter.

Given the uncertainty over the possible punishments for the displaying the Peterloo logo, the Board have taken the decision to cover up the logo in all fixtures. The regulation only applies to match wear shirts and therefore replica shirts sold by the Club will continue to proudly contain the Peterloo Massacre commemoration logo.

We hope this explains the position to supporters and appreciate their understanding on this matter.
